First, a little about us. Ruben and I have been together for 11 years. I would say Ruben wanted children since the very beginning of our relationship. Being the planner/worrier that I am, I always thought it was something we could plan for later in life. Once we get that pool put in, or as soon as the bathroom has been remodeled, I would say to myself, then we'll be ready! Well, yesterday was my birthday. I decided it's now or never. We are both ecstatic about the possibility of growing our family. For a time, I thought adoption was our calling. I attended classes, workshops, and met with lawyers about how to go forward with adopting from the state. Throughout the whole process, something just didn't feel quite right to me. The hurdles, bureaucracy and uncertainty of adoption just weren't for us. When I accidentally discovered surrogacy in India, I avidly started my research. It just felt like the right thing to do for both of us. For once I decided to listen to that little voice in my head and go for it. We ended up choosing SCI in Delhi. More about how we made that choice in a later post.
At this point, we've chosen a donor and I have had my necessary medical tests done, as I will be the donor. We are scheduled to make our first visit to India during the first week of April. In a few weeks we will be applying for our Indian Visas. Now to get that bathroom remodeled before our big trip...
